Tribute to Boubakar Barry
I am Nii Quaynor, with Alain Aina, a delegation from the African internet technical institutions known as Af*, we are here to pay tribute to our beloved colleague Internet revolutionary, Dr Boubakar Barry. To appreciate the might of Dr Barry, the Af* includes AfREN, AfNOG, Afrinic, Aftld, Dotafrica, AfRegistrar, ISOC Africa and ICANN Africa.
BB, as we call him, was a very special fearless trusted soldier always ready to demonstrate Africa was capable of technical achievements and was a leader in establishing Research and Education Networks in Africa. BB has been working alongside us to ensure African ownership of Internet since 1990’s. We were determined to prevent internet technology know how to be used as a colonizing weapon against Africa.
More recently, BB coordinated African research and education networks, Afren on behalf of Af*.
Our heartfelt condolences to his family and a great loss to Senegal and Africa. We shall carry on your good deeds.
Rest in peace, BB. An African internet warrior.
